More feedback about Poor No More
from an anti-poverty gathering in Bracebridge
(organized by PROMPT - Poverty Reduction of Muskoka Planning Team)
I thought it was fantastic. I think the comments "I love taxes" was really powerful. As was the story that can work hard and still be poor. This illusion that people who are poor "deserve it", that it's their own fault needs to be changed. I think movies like this will help to address that. I liked it all! I could watch 90 minutes. Depressing, but I know the facts. It's important to see the individual, personal stories. These are people, not just numbers / stats. Loved seeing how other countries have tackled the challenges in society / poverty. There are likely many models we can learn from....All-in-all a great documentary. I liked the first-hand experiences of real people. And how trade unions contributed to the progress made in Ireland and Sweden. The courage of the people who were willing to share their stories was incredibly powerful. Putting human faces to the real experiences of poverty will hopefully help reduce stigma and increase compassion from those who otherwise do not understand the actual condition of those who receive assistance or otherwise live in poverty. Great work! An excellent film -- interesting, cohesive, and well-paced. Very powerful movie. Portrayed what poverty looks like in Canada but also gave solutions! Thanks for coming to Bracebridge. Great film. Very powerful emotionally. Very enjoyable, Thank you. Wonderful. Such great awareness. The perspective of identifying challenges / inadequacies in our country by personal testimony and then reviewing the ways (solutions?) other countries have addressed those specific issues / injustices was fascinating. The film is intriguing and keeps the audience engaged throughout. Excellent... very moving and striking. Well done. Thank you.
